I made something like this a while back but just wanted too thrilled with it and decided to give it a go again using a different method. I will say, I LOVE this one. It turned out just perfect and my Reagan was thrilled she finally got her ‘own’ bow holder, as I had used Lilli’s name on the first try. 😉
It was actually quite inexpensive to make, I was able to get everything at my local Wal-Mart, and I was able to put it together in a little under 2 hours, including interruptions. 🙂
You’ll need to get a frame (I used a $3 5×7 one), some buttons in the colors of your choosing (I got a small bag, in this color mixture, for $1.97), some ribbon (I had this on hand from bows but there are tons to choose from even at Wal-mart and are usually less than $2), some paper (I used scrapbook paper cut to fit the frame), a glue gun, and glue!
The first thing I did was get on the computer and open a word doc. In there you can select the 5×7 paper size which I highly recommend so you don’t have to worry about it not fitting. I then chose a font I liked and did two ‘text boxes’ so I could have them overlapping and get it exactly how I wanted it. Then I just printed it out and I was ready to go!
Next I took my buttons and just laid them over the large, monogram, letter to make sure I got it organized in a way I liked without glueing it down. I took a quick picture, so I would remember how it was and then started glueing with the bottom layer.
Then I moved on to the middle and then top.
Once I had all the buttons glued down I flipped it over and measured where I wanted the two 18″ ribbons. This is the only thing I would change. I measured so they would be spaced 1 inch apart. If I was doing it again I would glue the ribbon spaced farther apart so the bows have more room. I took my girls biggest bows and clipped them on and they fit, so I left it, but I’d suggest spacing them apart more than I did.
Then all you need to do is put it in the frame, I put the glass behind it to make it more sturdy, then replaced the back and it was done!
Cute huh? I was very happy with it! The best part is it’s totally customizable! You can change the frame color, the paper backing, the buttons, the ribbon… the possibilities are endless! So get creative and turn those sweet bows into some art! And just in case you’re not feeling crafty, I added these to the Etsy shop. You can make all the choices, I’ll put it together for you and it will arrive at your door ready to be hung!
Happy Mother’s Day!!
